In Class: students will be learning about the layers of the Earth, plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes. The field trip to Tellus Museum is Thursday. Students not participating in the field trip will be working on a study guide to help prepare them for the unit 4 test that will be given next week (tentatively scheduled for Monday).
Tuesday: Finish Layers of the Earth diagram (or flip book) find your 5 facts in the online textbook. (Click anywhere on the highlighted green line to go to the link). Enter the username and password, and then go to Chapter 7 Plate Tectonics Username: student31104 Password: x2x7n
Wednesday: Watch this Brainpop video about plate tectonics. The username and password are "ecobb".
Thursday: study guide
Friday-Sunday: study for Unit 4 test
In class: Today we wrapped up our Basketball Court Challenge for which students created a research-based solution to a soil erosion problem, built models, and tested them. For the rest of the week, we will focus on the layers of the Earth and plate tectonics (continental drift). There will be a retest of unit 3 on Friday. Please check StudentVue/ParentVue to see if you/your student needs to retake the test.
Homework: Study for Unit 3 retest
In class: This week students are wrapping up Unit 3 with a test today and a project Wednesday through Friday called the Basketball Court Challenge. This is a problem based learning activity where teams will design a solution to a basketball court that is continually flooded and covered with sediment due to erosion. Students will apply erosion control concepts while implementing the design model for engineering. This should be a lot of fun!
Homework: If students have not turned in their class notebooks/folders, they need to do that this Wednesday as the grading period ends on Thursday. Students will need to have the following items in order inside their notebook:
2. Safety Contract
3. Rock Cycle Read and Respond
4. Rock Cycle diagrams (2 sided handout with one on each side)
5. Weathering notes page
6. Weathering tree map- student created
7. "Do Nows" 10/11/16-11/7/16 (one for each date during the range)
8. Erosion and Deposition Notes page
9. Soil Notes page
10. Bill Nye notes page
11. Soil layers diagram- yellow page
